Our home site, Little Westcott, uses a Biomass heating system to indirectly heat the chicken houses with hot water. 3x199kw boilers were installed in 2014. The project was funded by the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which was available at the time, giving us both financial and environmental benefits.
With rising energy costs and the deadline to meet Net 0 by 2050 looming, we have been investing heavily in solar panels across 4 of our farms, installing 600kw of solar between them. We have been seeing 40% electric savings. This has been helped by peak electric production happening at the same time as peak consumption in the sheds.
